According to Balinese folklore, this carving represents a Yogi (priest) who weeps for the woes of the world. By stroking the Yogi he can take on your woes too, leaving you with less worries. Often used as a tactile, mindfulness anchor. These yogis have been in storage with me for many years, forming part of a personal collection. They are in excellent vintage condition and have been recently waxed to give a warm glow to the wood. They are carved from a wood known as Suar, where the sap wood is light and the heart wood is dark - often carved to incorporate both colours of the tree.
